Louise E. (Gobiel) Chapdelaine, 88, formerly of 55 Anderton Ave.
Pawtucket died on Nov. 4, 2007 after a long battle with
Alzheimer's disease at the Scallop Shell Nursing Home. She was
the devoted wife of the late Edmond G. "Chappy" Chapdelaine.
Louise was born in Pawtucket September 9, 1919 to the late Oneil
and Louise (Jacobs) Gobiel. She was a life long resident of
Pawtucket. As a child, she lived at 71 Reservoir Ave. During her
teens and while her husband was at war, she lived on Stedman
Ave. Soon after the war, Louise and Chappy built a home on
Anderton Ave. and she dedicated her life to her husband and their
four children. There was no place on earth that brought her more
happiness than her family in the little read house on the dead-end
street in Fairlawn. During the thirties, she worked for Woolworth's
and E.L. Freeman on Main St. and watched the steeple blow off of
the Pawtucket Congregational Church during the '38' hurricane.
She also worked at Dale Box and Display as a jewelry display
maker and while there cultivated many lasting friendships. Louise
is survived by three daughters; Louise Jensen of Westford, VT,
Michelle O'Brien of Portsmouth, Denise Davis of Westerly. One
son Harold Chapdelaine of Vineyard Haven, MA. Eight
grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held
Thursday at 9am from the Merrick R. Williams Funeral Home 530
Smithfield Ave. Pawtucket with a mass of christian burial at 10am
in St. Edward's Church Weeden St. Pawtucket. The church she
was both baptized and married in. Her bearers will be her
grandson Seth Jensen, her granddaughters; Sinead O'Brian,
Stephanie and Amanda Davis and Elise and Michele Chapdelaine.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday 7-9pm. Burial will be
with her husband in the RI Veterans Cemetery Exeter, RI. In lieu
of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association 245
